One year ago this month, Ayanna was sworn into the 117th Congress for her second term in the U.S. House of Representatives!
Over the past year, Ayanna has continued to work day in and day out to address the hurt and harm in our communities and lay the groundwork for an equitable pandemic response that leaves no worker, no family, and no community behind — and your support is so powerful in fueling this critical work.
Now that Ayanna is halfway through her second term, we thought it would be the perfect time to share our collective accomplishments from 2021, and what you’re supporting when you contribute to our campaign.
This is a long email, so if you’re short on time, you can make your first $3 contribution right now.
Here are some highlights of what Ayanna and our movement accomplished in 2021:
Introduced and co-led 54 pieces of bold legislation to address our nation’s greatest challenges — including bills to combat the crisis of childhood trauma, abolish the federal death penalty, codify abortion rights for all, address homelessness, protect tenants in public housing, cancel student debt, reduce the racial wealth gap, and more!
Passed the American Rescue Plan, which delivered billions in flexible state funds for Massachusetts and direct aid to our communities — including funding for community health centers, support for those experiencing homelessness, and emergency relief for homeowners and renters.
Delivered a historic expansion of the Child Tax Credit, which has lifted millions of children out of poverty across the country, including 11,000 children in the MA-07.
Succeeded in extending the student loan repayment pause through May 1, 2022, which will help millions of families make ends meet in the midst of an ongoing pandemic and pandemic-induced economic crisis.
Passed the Build Back Better Act out of the House — which would invest trillions of dollars in affordable housing, community violence prevention, and child, home, and community-based care, extend the Child Tax Credit, enact paid family and medical leave, drastically lower the costs of prescription drugs, combat climate change, provide critical protections for our immigrant neighbors, and so much more.
Delivered tens of millions of dollars in federal funding for transportation and community projects.
Passed the Women’s Health Protection Act out of the House, a major step towards codifying reproductive freedom.
Led our first-ever deep canvassing efforts, engaging voters across the MA-07 to talk about student debt cancellation. We hosted 16 deep-canvassing trainings and phone banks, and spoke with more than 100 people across the district to advance our grassroots movement to cancel student debt.
Made meaningful progress in our fight to abolish the federal death penalty. This summer, the Department of Justice announced a moratorium on federal executions, and President Biden gave Ayanna his word that no one would be executed by the federal government under his watch.
Ayanna is advocating and legislating to make bold progress on issues of consequence for all of our communities — work that wouldn’t be possible without your support, partnership, and activism.
This year, we’re going to continue to strengthen our progressive movement and keep up the fight for a brighter future for folx in the Massachusetts 7th and beyond, and we need you with us.
In solidarity,
The A-Team
