Today is the first day of the legislative session. As we gear up for this critical election year, here's some key priorities in the Kansas Legislature:

Axe
the
Food
Tax
-
Eliminating
the
state
sales
tax
on
Food.
Kansas
has
the
second
highest
food
sales
tax
in
the
nation,
but
under
Governor
Laura
Kelly's
plan,
Kansans
would
no
longer
be
burdened
by
the
high
tax
and
save
an
estimated
$500
per
year.
*
Prioritize
education
reform
-
The
pandemic
took
a
tole
on
on
our
students.
This
session,
we
are
focused
on
boosting
progress
of
K-12
students
and
make
higher
education
more
affordable.
*
Expand
Medicaid
(Kancare)
-
After
years
and
years,
it's
time
for
Kansas
to
expand
Medicaid.
This
will
keep
more
than
100,000
Kansans
healthier
&
boost
federal
funding
for
health
care.
