Advocacy Protecting the Freedom to Vote Whatever our background or zip code, in America we value the freedom to have a say in decisions that impact our lives — from curbing the pandemic to creating jobs to making health care affordable. Congress passed the Voting Rights Act in 1965 to protect our freedom to vote and ensure that attempts to discriminate against voters are formally reviewed. But now, some politicians have endangered our lives and our elections, passing anti-voter bills and refusing to pass laws the majority of Americans favor. This is a turning point for our nation. Our Senate leaders must work to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to create national standards to ensure that we can safely and freely cast our ballots, ensure that trusted local election officials count every vote, and prevent partisan politicians from sabotaging the results of our elections. Visit pflag.org/CommunityJustice to learn more about these critical laws, what's at stake, and to take action with your Senators, today. For democracy to work for all of us, it must include us all! |
