John -- The GOP has used a number of tricks to justify their map manipulation. Now CNN reports that Republicans in many states are claiming that "racial data played no role as they drew the maps for the next 10 years." As if we’re to believe it’s just a coincidence that their maps happen to diminish the power of communities of color!
We know the truth: Republican gerrymandering is intended to weaken the political power of Black and brown people, who tend to vote Democratic. Just look at this headline from The New York Times:
And this is why the struggle against gerrymandering is a civil rights struggle, John. But the NDRC has no intention of allowing Republicans to get away with this. We're fighting them in the states, we're uplifting the voices of communities of color in redistricting, and our affiliates are supporting voters in lawsuits against rigged maps.
