John–
We're only a little over one week into 2022, and we're already getting to work fighting for gun safety and an end to gun violence. State legislatures across the country are back in session—and that means we are gearing up to make sure our lawmakers promote policies like secure storage and reject the gun lobby's agenda. We've got a lot of work ahead of us, but members of the movement just like you are committed to starting the year off strong.
In a recent survey, we asked some of you why you're in this fight. Here's what you had to say:
"A number of years ago my nephew was a victim of gun violence. I'm doing it in his honor."
-Richard G.
"Gun violence within schools has become too common of an occurrence, and I cannot sit idly by and watch the same scenario play out on the news time and again."
-Carlieanne E.
"At one time I was a member of the NRA, but due to their apparent lack of any concern for peoples' safety I am no longer a member."
-Randal J.
"Time and time again, we hear of disturbing, heartbreaking news of yet another preventable shooting. Regardless of its size and scale, we must do everything possible to prevent such tragedies from occurring."
-Heather H.
"As a social worker, I saw the socioeconomic impact of gun violence in underrepresented communities and I wanted to do something about it."
-Terri M.
"I am an ex-policeman. This insane idea that each person needs a gun has to stop."
-John V.
"I have experienced multiple shootings in my lifetime, and I'm only in my mid-20's. We shouldn't have to fear for our lives in common spaces because people feel entitled to have open carry."
-Christina S.
"I am sick and tired of all the senseless gun violence in this country."
-Carolyn J
John, as we continue fighting for gun safety in 2022, we want to hear from you. Take our survey to let us know why you fight to end gun violence.
