Friend,
They don’t call her the People’s Lawyer for nothing. Maura spent the past year doing what she does best – holding powerful interests accountable to the people of Massachusetts.
Consumer complaints to the AG’s Office started soaring at the beginning of the pandemic, and that trend continued in 2021 with more than 20,000 complaints against travel companies, event organizers, fitness clubs, and other institutions that tried to take advantage of consumers.
Maura doesn’t hesitate to put the full weight of her office behind efforts to make sure major corporations are operating in the best interests of consumers and workers. Last year, she launched an investigation into Facebook – excuse us, Meta – over Instagram’s negative effects on children, sued Grubhub for charging already struggling restaurants illegally high fees during COVID-19, and sued to block American Airlines and JetBlue’s plan for consolidation that would drive up costs for consumers.
And remember Maura’s lawsuit against Uber and Lyft for exploiting their workers? Well, she had a major victory last year when a judge rejected their attempt to dismiss her case. That means Maura is continuing her efforts to force Uber and Lyft to give their workers the basic benefits and protections they deserve – including a living wage, overtime, and earned sick time.
Thank you,
Team Healey
