Frankly, this is an embarrassment for Trump, McConnell, and the rest of their party — and it shows the power of our grassroots movement. Trump and company thought they had Kentucky in the bag, with an incumbent Republican in the governor’s seat already, a Trump rally right before election day, and a state where Trump won the presidential race by nearly 30 points in 2016. Despite all of that, Democrat Andy Beshear declared victory with about 5,000 more votes than his GOP opponent, proving we CAN take home wins in competitive races even in “deep red” states like Kentucky. Tuesday proved that even in so-called “off-years,” elections matter. And with enough grassroots power behind us, we can defeat Trump, ditch Mitch, and flip the Senate next year.
