John,
One year ago today, the MAGA mob, incited by lies spread by Donald Trump, Elise Stefanik, and other extreme Republicans, stormed the Capitol, assaulted police officers, and tried to stop the certification of President Joe Biden’s legitimate victory.
And just hours after the insurrectionists left the building, Elise Stefanik still voted to overturn the results of the free and fair 2020 election.

In the past year, Stefanik’s behavior has only gotten more extreme and anti-democratic:
- Stefanik voted against the select committee to investigate the January 6th Capitol insurrection and calls it a “sham.” Since the committee’s creation, she has repeatedly voted against its efforts to find answers for the American people about what happened on that day.
- Stefanik claimed Nancy Pelosi was actually responsible for the insurrection. This pathetic attempt to gaslight the American people with this absurd claim happened on the same day that Capitol Police officers gave emotional testimony before the House about their traumatic experiences.
- Stefanik’s campaign promoted an event with an insurrectionist. The far-right traitor has ties to extremist hate groups and attended the rally that led to the insurrection — but in a tweet promoting the campaign event, she called him an “American Patriot.”
Stefanik’s extremism has paid off big time for her personally this year. She replaced Liz Cheney — who refused to bow to Trump — as the third-ranking Republican in the House and has raised millions in campaign cash.
Today, I am taking time to reflect on one of the darkest moments in our democracy’s history. This tragedy should never have happened, and I’m more determined than ever to make sure that Elise Stefanik is held accountable for her role in the events and the aftermath. I hope you are too. Let’s remove her from office.
Together, anything is possible.
Matt
