As the country relived the January 6 attack on our democracy this week,
the New York Times suggested this unnerving scenario: "Imagine It’s 2024,
and Republicans Are Declaring Trump President"
The problem is that it could happen -- even Democrats win decisively,
including in key battleground states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and
Georgia.
Republicans are spending millions to get supporters of Trump's Big Lie
elected to key election positions across the country such as Secretary of
State. Even more terrifyingly, Republicans are now trying to replace
Democratic secretaries of state in key swing states where they expect the
2024 presidential race will be tight.

The New York Times outlined that Republicans aren’t just working to
replace pro-democracy Democrats -- they’re trying to undermine them, too:
"Republican legislatures in several states have revised their election
statutes to give themselves more authority over the conduct of elections
in their states, reducing the authorities of state secretaries of state,
governors and county election officials in the process.
"From the perspective of anyone who isn’t a Republican, those moves look
like preparation to commit fraud and to do so with legal impunity."
Secretaries of State are the top elections officials in most states.
Having Democratic, pro-voter, pro-democracy Secretaries of State is more
important now than ever before.
