In 2015, Donald Trump announced he would run for President by shamefully attacking the Hispanic community – my community.

A year later, I remember watching election coverage well into the night, as state after state fell to Trump. I couldn’t believe it – frankly I didn’t want to.

At the time, I owned a successful business, had a loving family, and a beautiful home. I was living the American Dream, John.

One year after the election of the most anti-Hispanic president in recent history, I became the first Latina Democrat to ever serve in Florida’s State Senate.
