John, it's Abby. First, I want to thank you for being one of my strongest supporters. Having you on my team really does mean the world to me. So today, I wanted to take a bit of time to tell you more about who I am and why I'm running to defeat Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) for Iowa's Senate seat.

I come from a working-class family with a proud tradition of service – my mother worked in the public school system and my father is a retired union pipefitter welder. My family couldn’t give me a trust fund or debt-free college, but they gave me something much better: They taught me that when there is work to be done or a problem to solve, you always raise your hand and say “yes.” If you're with me, then chip in a grassroots contribution now and say YES to defeating Sen. Grassley and expanding our Democratic Senate majority.

Seeing work to be done and doing it is a lesson that's stuck with me my entire life. It's why when I saw that no one was fighting for my community in the Iowa State House, even though I was only 25 years old, I raised my hand and said "yes," serving my community for four years.

But when my far-right representative voted to repeal the Affordable Health Care Act TEN times, I knew there was more work to be done. Plenty of people told me not to challenge him – he was twice my age and a seasoned Washington politician, while I was a young woman from a working family. But I knew that we needed someone to step up and fight for our communities. So once again, I said "yes," and once again, I won – becoming the youngest woman to flip a House seat from red to blue.

While in Congress, there was endless work to do, and endless problems to be solved. So, I kept on saying "yes" – yes to fighting for small businesses, yes to expanding access to affordable health care, yes to protecting our unions, yes to fighting for working families like the one I came from.

That brings me to why I'm running for Senate today. You see, when there's a problem facing Iowans, Sen. Grassley says "no."  When we ask for real help with skyrocketing health care costs, he says "no." When hardworking union members ask for basic protections and a good quality of life, he says "no."

Enough is enough. Sen. Grassley has turned his back on Iowa's working families, which is why nobody will work harder than me to defeat him and lift up the voices of families like mine in the Senate. But with the campaign arm of Senate Republicans sitting on $30 million to defend vulnerable incumbents like Sen. Grassley, I simply cannot win without major grassroots support.

So please, tonight, can you say "yes" to defeating Sen. Grassley, protecting our Senate majority and fighting for working families by making a $5 donation right here and now?

Thank you for believing in this campaign and saying "yes" to standing up for the values that we both believe in.

With gratitude,

– Abby
