Yesterday marked one year since insurrectionists emboldened by Donald Trump threatened the very fabric of our democracy.

A year later, Republican-controlled state governments across the country have continued to rig legislative maps in their favor and introduced an unprecedented number of voter suppression bills, making it more difficult for people to meaningfully participate in our nation's most sacred right.

All of this points to one major fact: We are fighting for the soul of our democracy in 2022 – and Democratic governors represent our best chance at protecting our progressive values nationwide, especially here in Maryland.

With enough resources, I know we can make it through the primary, win in November, and send the message that far-right politics have no place in Maryland – but we can't do it without your support. Our first public filing is in a matter of days, and we're still short of our 1,500 contribution goal. Look, our road to victory won't be easy. Republicans have won the governor's office in three out of the last five elections, and Donald Trump is already trying to carve out a foothold in Maryland, throwing his support behind a far-right insurrectionist in the Republican primary – a move that will almost certainly flood the state with outside cash.

That's why it's so important that we hit every single one of our fundraising goals – starting with our first public filing next week. Shoring up resources now means we have the ability to run a winning campaign. It means we can quickly get to work building a Maryland where a parent's income no longer determines their child’s access to opportunity, where workers have a voice, where safe, affordable housing is a human right, and quality health care is no longer out of reach.
