What we’ve done and what’s yet to come!

Friend,

The arrival of the new year also marks the start of a new legislative session in Albany - this time, with both a new governor AND a new mayor. I want to share a quick snapshot of what my priorities are for the new legislative session, but first, here’s a look at just some of what we accomplished together last year.

In 2021, we:

  • Partnered with Brooklyn Immigrant Community Services to deliver thousands of boxes of fresh food to our neighbors, as well as maintained the People’s Pantry, a 24/7 food pantry, where we distributed thousands of pounds of food to those in need.
  • Organized more than 20 Community Clean Ups, making our neighborhoods cleaner for the return of Summer Concerts and community events such as the Senior Prom held for our seniors in the district.
  • Passed a state budget that included $1 billion in small business assistance, $2 billion in rental assistance, and finally fulfilled the promise of fully funding our public schools
  • We introduced groundbreaking legislation, including the Data Labor Compensation and Accountability Act to tax the sale of personal data, the introduction of the Hospital Equity and Affordabilty Legislation (HEAL Act) which puts a stop to contracting practices that drive up the costs of healthcare, and the Sleep Act that finally makes it easier to stop loud, obnoxious mufflers from terrorizing our neighborhoods.
  • 26 of our bills were signed into law, including the Sleep Act, Comprehensive Insurance Disclosure Act, and special relief for firefighters diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Since 2019, we’ve had 52 bills signed into law!
  • Marched with almost a thousand CUNY students, faculty, and advocates in support of a New Deal for CUNY, fighting for quality higher education, free tuition, new modernized buildings, improved student mental health ratios, and more teaching staff for our city’s students.

That was 2021. Take a look at what I have in store for 2022:

Gounardes: My Top Ten Priorities for the 2022 Legislative Session

2022 is going to be a big year, but I can’t do it alone. I need your help to make sure I can keep fighting in Albany for working families, safe communities, and a government that is by and for New Yorkers. Can I count on your support to make it happen?

Let’s get to work,

Andrew
