Fellow Conservative,
We hope you had a great Christmas and Happy New Year. We have much to be thankful for and even more to keep fighting for so let’s jump into the first Saturday Summary of 2022.

In Washington this week, the House was out of session and the Senate confirmed Anne Witkowsky to be an Assistant Secretary of State. That’s not to say there wasn’t a lot happening—keep reading!

Reflecting back on 2021, we saw huge wins at the state level, and conservatives are hungry for new policy wins on election integrity and CRT as states begin their 2022 legislative sessions.

Heritage Action will continue our successful strategy from 2021, by blocking Liberal overreach at the federal level while moving the ball forward at the state level. We look forward to upping the ante in 2022 to keep critical race theory out of America’s schools, protect our sacred right to vote, and defend the unborn. More on “what to expect in 2022” from Executive Director Jessica Anderson. <[link removed]>

Supreme Court Takes on Vax Mandates
Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments <[link removed]> on two challenges to Biden’s overreaching and unlawful vaccine mandate.

A case challenging a Health and Human Services rule that requires all healthcare workers at facilities that participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs to be vaccinated.
Cases coming up from the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals on the OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard for employers with 100 employees or more.

Lawyers arguing against the OSHA vaccine mandate asked for a stay by January 10, which is when the mandate goes into effect. We are hopeful the Supreme Court will deliver a big win for individual liberty and against executive overreach in the next few days.

Background: Heritage Action activists submitted over 20,000 public comments against the OSHA rule, and under the leadership of President Kevin Roberts, The Heritage Foundation was quick to sue <[link removed]> the Biden Administration over this unlawful executive order that sweeps aside our personal freedoms.
Manchin Just Might
Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), a key vote in the deadlocked 50/50 Senate dealt Biden a major blow before Christmas by stating he wouldn’t support <[link removed]> Biden’s multi-trillion-dollar “Build Back Broke” spending bill that democrats are trying to drive through the Senate.

This was a great Christmas victory for conservatives, but Joe Manchin is no friend of the conservative movement. Last July, Manchin made it crystal clear he still supports certain provisions <[link removed]> of the Build Back Broke Bill and is still willing to spend $1.5 trillion American tax-payer dollars. Here is what Senator Manchin is still open to:

- Pushes for climate spending
- Expanding “green” energy tax credits
- Expanding fuel and vehicle tax credits to hydrogen/fuel cell technology
- Increases in corporate, income, and capital gains taxes

Starting off the new year, there are open whispers that Senator Manchin is still negotiating with Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer to move forward on these provisions.

Learn More: On the podcast this week, <[link removed]> Senate Relations Manager RJ Gibson joined Press Secretary Lindsey Curnutte to break down Manchin’s posturing, pressure points, and motives—and why our work here is not yet done.

Schumer Plans to Nuke the Filibuster
In late October, Schumer and Senate Democrats tried and failed to pass what we’re calling “The Freedom to Cheat Act” (S.2747). This bill has nothing to do with voting rights and everything to do with scooping up power and putting D.C. bureaucrats in charge of our election laws.

On Wednesday, Kevin Roberts and Jessica Anderson released a joint statement <[link removed]> calling out Senator Schumer for his divisive use of Jan. 6 to drive a nakedly partisan bill which will “take power away from the American people and forever undermine the integrity of our elections.”

On January 3, Schumer gave a deadline of January 17 to pass the legislation or he will move to change Senate rules to “Nuke” the filibuster, and destroy this long standing rule for debate that requires 60 senators to “end debate” and move on to a vote for “final passage.”

With a Nuked Filibuster, Schumer and his far-left cronies can pass the legislation on their own (with just 50 votes + Vice President Harris’s vote).

Nuking the Filibuster is the highest height of Democrat hypocrisy. In 2017, 27 current Democratic Senators, plus current Vice President Kamala Harris, signed a letter <[link removed]> urging Leader McConnell to protect the filibuster. So-called moderates like Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.), and Angus King (I-Maine) signed the letter, but now they might be the very Senators delivering the votes to blow it up!

And here’s Schumer’s hypocrisy, defending the filibuster in 2016:
In 2016 and 2017, Republicans held the majority in the Senate. They could have “nuked” the filibuster, but they didn’t. Because they knew that someday the shoe might be on the other foot—and sure enough, in 2021, Senate Republicans found themselves in the minority.

Importantly, Senator Schumer’s plan to nuke the filibuster, will ensure he is NEVER in the minority. By rigging the election rules in his party's favor, Schumer thinks he can guarantee Democratic majorities forever.

>>> Save Our Elections – Take Action this week:
Call your Senators, tell them to protect state election laws and preserve the filibuster
Bonus: If you have a Democrat Senator, see if they signed the 2017 letter. <[link removed]> If they did, highlight that in your phone call to them. Or write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper and highlight their hypocrisy in pushing to nuke the filibuster now.

Tomorrow’s fight starts today. 2022 is just getting started and we are already fighting some of the most grave and dangerous policies to our Republic.

Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.
