Hi there,
I want to share some exciting news with you... I'm running for California State Assembly!
I believe California must take bold action to combat climate change. We must reform our broken criminal justice system. Together, we can tackle homelessness and provide affordable housing.
I've fought for these values all my life – first as a community organizer and then on the San Diego City Council. Now, it's time to take that fight to Sacramento.
I was blessed to grow up in San Diego’s Barrio Logan with working-class immigrant parents whose daily sacrifices inspired my lifelong commitment to justice. Even from a young age, the differences between my community and more affluent ones were painfully obvious to me.
I've been working for a more just and equitable California ever since.
That passion inspired me to work as an advocate for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse after college. Then, I became a community organizer, working to hold corporations responsible for toxic pollution in our communities.
In 2016, I became the first queer Latina on the San Diego City Council, and just two years later, I was elected as Council President and Chair of San Diego public transportation. While on the City Council I proved my leadership by authoring San Diego's new Inclusionary Housing Law to jumpstart affordable housing construction, passing legislation to protect immigrants and refugees in our city, expanding our public transportation system, and leading the implementation of San Diego's Climate Action Plan.
I'm ready to fight for all these initiatives and more in the California State Assembly.
In solidarity,
Georgette
