Today, one of the country’s most conservative appellate courts, Texas’ 5th Circuit Court, heard arguments in a case regarding lawsuits about SB8 — the 6-week abortion ban in Texas.

Every day this ban stands, it has real consequences for patients not just in Texas, where providers have largely stopped performing abortions as arguments about SB8’s constitutionality have played out in the courts.

The consequences of this case are clear: if SB8 is allowed to stand in Texas not only do millions of Texans suffer the loss of their constitutional right to abortions, but the copy-and-paste laws we are seeing crop up across the country will continue to increase exponentially as millions more lose their right to an abortion and to other reproductive care.

But we cannot — and we will not — compromise on our fundamental right to abortion.

This year, and every year, we must elect prochoice champions who will stand up for our rights even if we no longer have federal protections in place. Please, stand with us and pledge to vote prochoice and elect prochoice champions by adding your name here.

Laws and bans like this one will continue cropping up, and legislatures will continue to push to pass the most restrictive bans that the Supreme Court will endorse.

Abortion is, and will be, under threat until we can elect state and local prochoice champions to stop these bans at the source and to protect and expand abortion access.

Reproductive freedom remains under attack.

The situation is emergent and dire.

The Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, ceding control of reproductive freedom to each state, 26 of which are already prepared to immediately ban most or all abortion.
