2022 is already a week old! Can you believe it? After taking some time to rest and recharge over the holidays, we’re energized, excited, and ready for what the year ahead has in store.

Even with all this time to reflect on 2021, I still can’t get over just how much we were able to accomplish. Together, we changed the lives of hundreds of millions of animals.

Across the country, food retail giants will no longer support factory farms that subject chickens to the worst forms of abuse. And the biggest global restaurant chains committed to eliminating cages for egg-laying hens. Thanks to you, over 12 million hens have been spared from life in a cage in the past year alone [[link removed]].

Right now—because you fought for her—there’s a hen who can finally spread her wings, no longer crushed against the hard, metal wire of a packed battery cage. This may seem like a small win, but to her, it changes everything.

Sadly though, these cages are not empty—yet. Despite this progress, millions of animals are still suffering through life on a factory farm. And, unless we keep fighting for them, their suffering will be overlooked.

We have a plan to make sure that doesn’t happen. In 2022, we’re going to ramp up our work to give even more individuals a better life.

We’re going to continue to fight hard for the animals who suffer every day in our broken food system. We’re continuing our work to end the horrific practice of live-shackle slaughter [[link removed]], which boils thousands of chickens alive each week. We’re pressuring even more companies to eliminate cruel battery cages [[link removed]] from their supply chains. And we’re launching new initiatives to help pigs, cows, and fishes raised for food.

But we know it’s not just the food companies who need to change. We’ll also continue to raise awareness about the cruelty of factory farming, advocating for everyone to leave animals off their plate and make the switch to compassionate, plant-based foods.

Together, we’re going to transform our food system and end factory farming, once and for all.

I know that sounds ambitious—but I also have proof that it’s possible. It’s right here, in this community of changemakers. Just look at how you’ve boldly and bravely spoken out for animals in the past year: taking online actions [[link removed]], writing letters, educating friends and family, and providing financial support [[link removed]] to end the abuse of animals raised for food. With you on our side, I know we can build a better future for animals.

I want to sincerely thank you for your continued partnership. Amidst an ongoing pandemic and continuing disruptions to our everyday lives, you take the time to show genuine compassion and care for some of the most overlooked individuals in our world—animals on factory farms.

I can’t wait to see what we will achieve for animals this year.
