2022 is only a week old, but it's already shaping up to be an exciting year. A lot happened, and there are signs of even bigger things to come. Here's what's new this week:
It's Carnival season!
We made it! Now it's time to celebrate. Parades will roll again this year, and there's a lot to be thankful for. Grab some king cake and let's get the party started!
Mayor announces support for education proposition
On Wednesday, Mayor Cantrell joined with a broad coalition of government officials, community leaders, teachers, and parents in announcing their support for the Early Childhood Education and Care Proposition. This proposition would ensure equitable access to high-quality early childhood education and care for low-income families by expanding the hugely successful City Seats program.
The proposition will be on the ballot April 30. Vote "yes" to make a difference!

Mayor Cantrell and NOLA Public Schools announce COVID-19 update and new mitigations
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 surge, the vaccine/testing mandate for entrance to bars and restaurants has been expanded.
Vaccine eligibility has also been expanded to include children ages 5 to 11 in keeping with CDC recommendations, and booster shot eligibility has been extended to everyone 16 and up. Visit ready.nola.gov to find out where you can get your shot!
Recycling pickup set to resume in much of the city
Curbside recycling is set to resume on January 10 in Service Area 1, which includes the West Bank, Uptown, and Mid-City. Curbside recycling in Service Area 2, which includes Gentilly and eastern New Orleans, will resume in 2022 after a new contract is awarded.
