ABC6: Treasurer Magaziner, Legislative Leaders, community members announce bill to expand investment in RI schools buildings

My proudest achievement as Treasurer has been leading a once-in-a-generation effort to rebuild and transform Rhode Island schools. The school construction initiative I launched has allocated funding to repair or replace 189 schools across 28 districts, serving more than 100,000 students and creating more than 28,000 jobs.

Our students are the future of our state, and every child deserves to go to a school that is warm, safe, and will prepare them for a bright future. That's why yesterday, we announced legislation to extend and expand the school construction program in Rhode Island so we can repair and rebuild even more schools.

The legislation we just announced is the next step toward ensuring every student in Rhode Island has access to a high-quality education that prepares them for the 21st-century workforce. This includes more investment in facilities for science, math, arts and technology and also new incentives to build more energy efficient school buildings.
