Dear neighbor:
Happy New Year! For so many of us, the conclusion of 2021 was bittersweet. It was a year of many challenges, but we’ve made significant progress on managing the COVID-19 pandemic, including rolling out miraculous vaccines to millions of Americans and preventing thousands of deaths in the process. In Congress, we’ve been able to accomplish a lot – including historic investments in infrastructure and American workers through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the American Rescue plan.
One notable accomplishment we made in 2021 is close to my heart – making strides in addressing the veteran homelessness crisis. I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made in housing homeless veterans in LA County over the past year. We need to continue this momentum. Read my LA Daily News op-ed on reducing veteran homelessness here.
On a separate note, yesterday marked one year since the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. This was not only an attack on Congress, but also on our Constitution and our democracy. It was a despicable and shameful moment in American history. As we reflect on that day, we remain grateful to the brave law enforcement and Capitol Police officers who put their lives on the line to protect us and the seat of our democracy.
As we look back on the last year, I wanted to draw your attention to some of the work my team and I have done to serve our constituents in California’s 33rd Congressional District. In 2021, we:
- Introduced 43 bills;
- Co-authored 461 bills;
- Closed 1,914 constituent cases;
- Sent 31,074 responses to constituent mail; and
- Recouped $7.98M for constituents.

It is an incredible honor to serve you in the United States Congress. Please see below for updated COVID-19 information and resources as cases continue to surge in Los Angeles County.
COVID-19 Updates
Despite the surge in COVID-19 transmission in LA County, vaccines still prove to be the best protection against hospitalization and death due to this disease. To find a vaccination site near you, or to make an appointment, please visit VaccinateLACounty.com or call 1-833-540-0473 for assistance. If you are eligible, please book an appointment for a booster shot to enhance your protection.
Booster Eligibility: This week, the CDC officially expanded its recommendations for COVID-19 booster shots to include everyone ages 12 years and older. At this time, only the Pfizer booster shot is authorized and recommended for 12–17-year-olds. They can get their booster five months after completing their primary Pfizer series. For more information, please click here.
Testing: If you are experiencing symptoms or believe you’ve been exposed, please get tested. The LA County Home Test Collection program is offering free, at-home COVID test kits via mail to all LA County residents. To sign up to have a test kit delivered to your home address, please click here. For more information on COVID-19 testing in LA County, please visit covid19.lacounty.gov/testing.
I know we are all tired and frustrated about the pandemic. However, I’m confident we will get through it together. Please wear a mask in public, and get vaccinated if you haven’t already. To learn more about COVID-19 in our community, please visit the LA County Department of Public Health website. For more information on my work in Congress, you can visit my website at lieu.house.gov and follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
