Yesterday, we remembered the one year anniversary of the Capitol insurrection—a brutal assault on our democracy, perpetuated by lies and fringe conspiracy theories. And Facebook served as an incubator for all these dangerous falsehoods.

This should be an agonizing anniversary for Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook, as they continue to shirk responsibility for fomenting the Big Lie and its tragic consequences – but sadly, there has been no reckoning. When Facebook made the deliberate decision to turn off critical election misinformation safeguards immediately after the election they nurtured the Stop the Steal movement and sowed the seeds of the insurrection.

Facebook continues to allow rampant misinformation and extremism on its platform and it pays no price — in fact, it profits. We know Facebook won’t step up to the plate, so that’s why we need all of us to take action:
