John,
This week, Tara Henley, a former CBC producer, raised
a lot of eyebrows with her story about why she resigned after a decade
working there. You can read it here.
CBC now
embodies “some of the worst trends in mainstream media,” she writes.
It has embraced the radical woke agenda.
We knew that
already of course!
Although she sees herself as a leftist, the
CBC has shifted so far left in recent years that she found herself as
the most conservative in her newsroom.
And worst of
all, the CBC is now an explicitly racist organization. As Henley
writes:
“To work at the CBC now is to accept the idea
that race is the most significant thing about a person, and that some
races are more relevant to the public conversation than others. It is,
in my newsroom, to fill out racial profile forms for every guest you
book; to actively book more people of some races and less of others.”
John, there is just no reason for a public broadcaster to
exist at a time when there are thousands of sources for news and
entertainment on the internet.
Don’t expect the
Conservative Party to do anything about it.
Erin
O’Toole also tweeted Tara Henley’s article. But all he proposes is to
“start the conversation” on “how to fix the CBC.” You can be sure he
won’t fix it by pulling the plug.
The PPC will.
A PPC government will defund CBC/Radio-Canada. It will
privatize it, or transition it toward a funding model similar to that
of PBS and NPR in the U.S.
And it will abolish the
Trudeau government’s media bailout programme.
