My name is Michelle Siri, and I am so honored to be joining this ticket with Secretary John King's campaign for governor of Maryland.

As a first-generation Iranian-American, my mom always instilled in me the importance of never taking our rights for granted and always advocating for those around me, and it’s because of her and my own life experience that I’ve dedicated my life working towards achieving equal rights for women here in Maryland and across the country — through my law career, at Planned Parenthood, or at the Women’s Law Center. Now, I have the chance to do it on an even bigger scale as a part of this campaign with John.

From the moment I met John, it was clear that his authenticity, honesty, and commitment to serving others are unlike anyone I had met before. As Secretary of Education under President Obama, the President of the Education Trust, and the founder of Strong Future Maryland, he worked tirelessly to advance bold legislation that invests in our public schools, protects workers, and safeguards our environment. Across Maryland and the country, John has created opportunities and changed lives at every level. Now, he’s ready to lead our state — and I’m humbled by the opportunity to get to work building a more equitable Maryland alongside him.

I’m not a politician, friend. I’m just a proud Marylander with 20 years of experience advocating for legislation and pushing for women’s rights on the state and national levels.
