Friends -
I'm writing to you today to share my story about why I'm running for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin. I hope you'll take a moment out of your day to keep reading.
My path here is different than most. I was born in Milwaukee, in one of the most impoverished and incarcerated zip codes in the country.
I was fortunate that both of my parents had good union jobs. My dad worked 3rd shift at the General Motors factory. My mom was a public school teacher. Those jobs were their ticket into the middle class and opened doors of opportunity for me that many could only dream of.
Yet for so many people across Wisconsin and across the country today, those same opportunities no longer exist. Those pathways into the middle class are closed off – whether by the cost of health care, the lack of good-paying jobs, or an education system that doesn’t prepare them for the futures they deserve.
That’s what we need to fight for change.
I am a U.S. Senate candidate today because of the opportunity my parents had and the opportunities they provided to me. I want every child growing up in Wisconsin and the U.S. to have that same shot at success.
But in order for that to happen, we need to start with expanding the Democratic majority in the Senate and replacing Ron Johnson who has refused to deliver for Wisconsin families.
I made the decision to enter into this race because the time is long overdue to bring opportunities back to every part of Wisconsin – from Milwaukee to Eau Claire, and everywhere in between.
We cannot settle for what is. We must reach for what can be.
We must rebuild the bridges to the middle class for so many who have been left behind.
We must tackle the climate crisis and create tens of thousands of good-paying jobs.
We must realize the dream of universal health care and build an economy that works for everyone.
I am running for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin so that my story – and my family’s story – is no longer the exception.
But if we're going to make the American Dream an American reality for everyone, we must build a grassroots movement all across Wisconsin and the country. That's the only way we're going to win this race – and it's also how we will bring about the change that is desperately needed at this moment.
So if you are ready to be a part of that effort, can I count on you to add a contribution today?
Thank you for being a part of this team. It means the world to me to know that we're in this together.
All my best,
Mandela Barnes
