Just when we thought we were done with him, Andrew Wheeler is back. It's clear that before he’s even sworn into office, Virginia’s governor-elect is waging a war on climate action.

John, before he’s even sworn into office, Virginia’s governor-elect is waging a war on climate action.

It wasn’t enough that Youngkin has threatened executive action to pull Virginia out of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a market-based program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power plants in northeastern and mid-Atlantic states. He’s now doubling down by appointing Trump’s former EPA Administrator, Andrew Wheeler, as his Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources.

Remember Andrew Wheeler and his backward leadership?

He has held both Vice President and President positions for the Washington Coal Club. He infamously stated on Fox Business News that climate change isn’t an “existential threat.” As EPA Administrator, he rolled back Clean Water Act protections, plans for renewable energy, and relaxed vehicle emission standards.

Just when we thought we were done with him, Andrew Wheeler is back. These are the tragic consequences of letting our resolve slip for even a moment. Doing so let’s walking, talking climate disasters like Wheeler back into positions of power.

It’s clear that Youngkin is siding with Big Fossil Fuels and climate change deniers with Wheeler’s cabinet appointment. He’s preparing to undo all the progress Virginia has made under Democratic governors and legislatures over the past decade.

That’s why it’s crucial, John, that we elect SEEC members to Congress in 2022 who will continue passing national legislation to tackle climate change and protect our environment while Youngkin and Wheeler try to undo progress in Virginia. Can we count on your help?

John, we cannot afford to let Wheeler and Youngkin wipe away progress on climate action. We’re working around the clock to ensure SEEC members are elected to Congress in 2022 — members who will fight to protect our environment and stand up to the special interests that want to see us fail. Will you help us ensure they are elected?

Thanks for helping us fight back.
