More needs to be done to ensure timely mail delivery for Marylanders.

As you know, I’ve been working to get to the bottom of the persistent Postal Service and mail delivery issues impacting Marylanders. Today, I have an update I want to share with you.

I joined the Maryland congressional delegation in asking Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and USPS leadership for an update on their efforts to address ongoing mail issues following an audit of Baltimore-area Post Offices last year.

We recently received a response from the USPS and I’m pleased to hear about the steps that have been taken, including:

  • Increasing staffing by 2,000 in Maryland
  • Activating additional mail-sorting and delivery facilities
  • Opening a new carrier training academy

There is still much more that needs to be done to implement the recommendations made following last year’s audit, including better metric tracking for mail delivery failures to ensure timely mail delivery for Marylanders.

I’m calling on USPS leadership to continue making changes to restore mail services for Marylanders and I’m hoping you’ll join me. Will you add your name to mine?
