** I'm sure it's no surprise, but the media and the politicians are lying to you about what is really going on in California.

F ([link removed]) orbes ([link removed]) (11/4/19) column: "'The media haven’t gotten the idea that we have two very different fire problems,' Keeley said. 'And so the politicians haven’t been reading about the two very different problems.' The first is the wind-driven fires on coastal shrubland, or chaparral, where most of the houses are. Think: Malibu and Oakland. Nineteen of the state’s 20 most deadly and costly fires were there. The second is the forest fires in places like the Sierra Nevadas where there are far fewer people. Mountain ecosystems have the opposite problem from coastal ones. There are too many fires in the shrublands and too few prescribed
burns in the Sierras."

** "No matter how well intentioned, sometimes hyper-precautionary rules can be deadly. By defaulting public policies to super-cautious mode and curtailing important innovations, laws and regulations can actually make the world less safe."

(11/5/19) reports: "Plains All American Pipeline LP said on Tuesday it expects to begin construction on the Wink-to-Webster Permian crude pipeline by the end of the year and is targeting bringing the line to service by early 2021. Plains has already ordered a majority of equipment needed to commence construction such as 36-inch (91.5-cm) domestic line-pipe and long-lead materials, a company executive said during the quarterly earnings call. The Wink-to-Webster Pipeline is a joint venture among affiliates of Exxon Mobil Corp , Plains All American, MPLX LP, and Delek US, among others. The pipeline system is expected to transport more than 1 million barrels of crude oil and condensate per day from the Permian Basin in West Texas, the biggest U.S. oil basin, to the Texas Gulf Coast."

(11/6/19) reports: "Yes, children, climate change will be on the test. Italy’s education minister said Tuesday that its public schools would soon require students in every grade to study climate change and sustainability, a step he said would put Italy at the forefront of environmental education worldwide. The lessons, at first taught as part of the students’ civics education, will eventually become integrated throughout a variety of subjects — a sort of 'Trojan horse' that will 'infiltrate' all courses, the education minister, Lorenzo Fioramonti, said.
California would be a magical place...if not for the Californians.

(11/5/19) reports: "Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg said that his city, which has its own municipal electric utility but relies on PG&E for gas service, has to start considering alternatives. 'I’m signing on in solidarity with my fellow mayors whose constituents are suffering under PG&E,' said Mr. Steinberg, a Democrat who formerly led the state senate. He added that his city enjoys 'the benefit of electricity being a public commodity and overseen by people who are accountable to the public.'...In addition to San Jose, Oakland and Sacramento, Mr. Liccardo said the coalition has garnered support from mayors representing Berkeley, Chico, Cotati, Elk Grove, Hayward, Modesto, Petaluma, Redding, Richmond, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Sonoma, Stockton, Sunnyvale and Windsor. He said commission chairs from Marin, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Yolo counties also are supporters."
