New York Times: Gerrymandering Will Protect Republicans Who Challenged the Election
“Taking a position as inflammatory as refusing to certify a fair election would be riskier for G.O.P. lawmakers if they needed to appeal to an electorate beyond their next set of primary voters.”

One year ago, insurrectionists attacked our Capitol -- encouraged and emboldened by the seditious rhetoric of elected officials who refused to certify election results.
There were many factors that led to the attack -- our country’s deep-rooted history of racism, conservative Courts’ erosion of voting rights, unfettered false rhetoric, and the desperation of a political party that has failed to secure a majority of the nationwide popular vote more than once in the past 30 years.
But we would like to call specific attention to the fact that of the 147 members of Congress who voted to overturn the election results in Arizona and/or Pennsylvania, half of them are members of the House of Representatives hailing from gerrymandered states.
Forty-three of the House members represent gerrymandered districts themselves -- including Ohio’s Jim Jordan. And, senators like Texas’s Ted Cruz and Missouri’s Josh Hawley both inevitably benefit from voting restrictions imposed by their gerrymandered state legislatures.
As the New York Times reported, “Almost all of them are guaranteed to win re-election.”
We need to pass democracy reforms and institute laws that will help prevent the factors that led to this moment in our history. Will you support All On The Line’s efforts to advocate for the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis VRAA?

The Freedom to Vote Act would reform redistricting and protect voting rights. This is the kind of structural accountability that can set our democracy on a more fair and just path.
We’re launching a full-scale advocacy initiative to tell the Senate that voting reforms need to be a priority in 2022 -- and these protections must be implemented in time to impact the midterm elections later this year.
AOTL has already invested $1 million dollars in fighting for voting rights -- thanks to the help of grassroots supporters. We need to take this effort over the finish line and provide voters with the resources they need to contact their senators and advocate for the Freedom to Vote Act.
Will you chip in $20.22 to help strengthen our democracy?
