A year ago today, we witnessed armed white nationalists, with the support of Trump and the GOP, violently storm the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
In the months that followed, this seditionist coup pulled back the curtain to reveal to the nation how white supremacy and systemic racism permeate every American institution. The foundation of this country was built on systemic racism and the free labor of enslaved Black people – we must move forward to take on the necessary and hard work ahead of us to address our history as a nation.
We can begin making progress by making sure endorsers of white supremacy aren’t allowed to continue serving in our government. It is critical that we demand accountability for the events of January 6, 2021. That is why we’re asking each and every Women’s Marcher to add their name to Congresswoman Cori Bush’s resolution to investigate and expel the Republicans who helped incite this deadly coup.
Here’s the thing: Republicans and Trumpsters would love it if we brushed off this event as over and done — but it is a symptom of a much larger threat to our Democracy.
This year we’ve seen conservative state legislatures coordinate to pass some of the most restrictive voting rights legislation we’ve ever seen, essentially gutting the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and directly impacting women, people of color, and working-class folks.
The 2020 election was the most secure election in our nation’s history. Any government official who continues to spread disinformation and sow doubt is a threat to the feminist, anti-racist future we strive for. We deserve justice for this blatant, violent attack on our elections process. We must hold Republicans accountable – we cannot allow white supremacists to remain in office.
Hundreds of thousands of people have already co-signed Cori’s resolution — we must keep the momentum to propel this investigation forward until justice is served.
It’s critical we show the urgency of our movement especially today as we remember this day in history. Add your name right now to support Cori’s resolution to investigate and expel the members of Congress who helped incite the deadly insurrection on our Capitol.
