Our democracy survived that dark day, but the attacks didn't end.

Hello,

One year ago, we witnessed one of the darkest days in the history of our republic.

A violent mob not only tried to overturn the results of a free and fair election, they invaded and desecrated the seat of our democracy, threatening the lives of members of Congress, staff, and law enforcement officers and officials. Five people died, including a Capitol Police officer, and approximately 140 officers were injured.

Our democracy survived that dark day, but the attacks didn't end.

Donald Trump continued to promote his Big Lie. His allies have echoed his lie while obstructing the investigation into the insurrection at every turn. Now, they're hoping they can run down the clock until the midterm elections with the goal of avoiding any accountability whatsoever.

At the same time, Republican legislators across the country are enacting voter suppression laws and carving out gerrymandered districts to deny people like you the opportunity to have a voice in our government.

Despite the obstacles we face, we have a duty to defend our democracy. We must find the truth about who was there last January 6, who funded the insurrectionists, and how we can make sure that our democracy never again faces that same threat. We must also ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

Make no mistake: passing voting rights legislation with a razor-thin majority in the Senate won't be easy, and it will require filibuster reform. But Bob is working every day alongside his Democratic colleagues to make it possible.

We can never forget what happened one year ago today, but we don't have to be discouraged. Today is an opportunity to usher in a new era for our democracy by recommitting ourselves to the work of defending it.

With your support and your commitment, we can build a better, more democratic future for our Nation together.

Thank you for being a part of our team,

Team Casey
