John,

It has been one year since a violent mob stormed the Capitol.

One year since I watched the doors of the U.S. House of Representatives – doors I walked through hundreds of times as a congresswoman fighting for Iowans – be barricaded to slow a violent mob intent on destroying our democracy.

One year since my colleagues put on gas masks and hid in their offices, fearing for their lives in a building that should be a beacon of democracy.

One year since the events that would cause five law enforcement personnel to lose their lives.

One year since the consequences of lies about the election and silence in the face of them became all too clear.

Yet, one year later, there are still no real consequences or accountability for the people responsible for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection. If you agree that everyone responsible for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection should be held responsible, please make your voice heard here.

The Department of Justice and the January 6 House committee have been working hard to prosecute rioters and investigate the events leading up to the insurrection. But despite their commendable efforts, the ringleaders behind this horrific attack on our democracy have so far walked away scot-free.

Meanwhile, so-called "leaders" on the right have continued to defend Trump and his co-conspirators – leaders like my opponent Sen. Grassley (R-IA), who stood in the path of investigations and accountability at every turn. In condoning Trump's conspiracy theories and defending his attempts to undermine the results of our election, they put our democracy at risk.

Until everybody who was behind last year's attack is held accountable, they pose an active threat to our democracy. But we will only be able to hold them accountable, defeat this extremism and protect our democracy with a united grassroots movement. That's why, on the anniversary of one of the darkest moments for our country, I'm making an important ask of you: Will you defend our democracy by making your voice heard? Simply respond to the question below.

Do you believe those responsible for the Jan. 6 attack should be held responsible for their actions?

Thank you for standing with me in the fight for justice and for our democracy.

With gratitude,

– Abby
