John,
One year ago today, a violent mob of Donald Trump’s supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power. Since then, Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” has polluted our national politics with 19 Republican-controlled state legislatures passing 33 voter suppression bills targeting Black and brown voters.[1]
We demand that the U.S. Senate act to protect and strengthen our right to vote by passing critically needed voting rights legislation―and doing away with the Jim Crow filibuster to do it.
Sign the petition to all U.S. senators to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act―by any means necessary.
These attacks on our democracy are a direct response to Black and brown voters showing up in record numbers in the historic 2020 presidential election. The voter suppression bills include closing polling centers, purging voter rolls, eliminating early voting, curtailing mail-in voting, and gerrymandering federal and state legislative districts to ensure only Republicans get elected.
This is a blatant attack on our most basic right―to vote in free and fair elections.
Join Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund in demanding the U.S. Senate pass critical voting rights legislation―and abolish the filibuster if necessary.
In a democracy, voters should choose their elected officials and not the other way around. Otherwise, we will continue to have laws that reflect the views of the wealthy few, including a rigged tax system that values wealth over work and protects corporate interests over the publics’ interests.
Thank you for fighting for the future of our democracy.
