Looking back on the events of one year ago today has me filled with resolve. When a reporter asked me if my experience then caused me to reconsider my career in Congress, I told him it only made me more determined to serve.

As I said, “it made me more determined than ever to stay in this job and to heal this country.”

The same forces that inspired the insurrection at the Capitol are now working to steal our Democratic House majority. I make no apology for refusing to sit back and let these dangerous people run our government. Insurrectionists, armed with deadly weapons and Trump conspiracy theories, breached the United States Capitol and threatened the lives of those who serve our nation in those hallowed grounds - from police and first responders to staff working to deliver for the American people.

They did this to overturn the 2020 election, in service of the “Big Lie” that the election was stolen.

Trump loyalists laid siege to our Capitol for the first time since the War of 1812 when British troops burned Washington D.C.
