Welcome to Thursday’s edition of Noorani’s Notes.
Instead of bringing you the latest in immigration news today, we’re making it.
Our annual event, Leading the Way: An American Approach to Immigration’s general session kicks off around 8:50 this morning with a conversation between Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Illinois) and Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colorado) on what is needed for bipartisan immigration solutions.
The event, which we’re broadcasting live from Washington, D.C., also features discussions on addressing political polarization, the multifaceted benefits of immigration to the U.S., and an in-depth look at our southern border.
The only national convening of its kind, Leading the Way brings together more than 150 moderate and conservative faith, law enforcement and business leaders for two days to network, advocate on Capitol Hill and hear from influential speakers about the way forward on immigration. Participants will join more than two dozen meetings with Senate offices to discuss immigration solutions.
Tune in to hear from speakers including Dr. Russell Moore, President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention; Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best; Cherie Harder, President of The Trinity Forum; Mark Holden, Board Member of Americans for Prosperity; and Sister Norma Pimentel, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley. You can see a full list of speakers here.
I wrote about why today’s discussions are so important — and how we can lead the way to a path forward — in an op-ed for The Hill.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the op-ed and today’s discussions — be sure to use our hashtag #LeadingTheWay19 to join the conversation on Twitter.
