Dear Friend,
One year ago today, on January 6th, violent rioters stormed the US Capitol. The attack was one of the lowest points in our nation’s history. Never before had the Capitol been seized by Americans determined to subvert our democratic process, fueled by political lies and self-interested politicians.
Never before have we seen so clearly American democracy teetering on the edge.
In a new video from Unite America, noted poet and author Regie Gibson delivers a powerful reflection on the state of American democracy in his new original poem, “An Open Letter to the America that Will Be.” The images of January 6th are haunting, but now more than ever is our opportunity to create a new American vision for our democracy.
In the day to day discord of our political system, it can be difficult to see a way out. With midterms fast approaching, the partisan rancor may soon overwhelm us.
In the shadow of one of the darkest days in American history, today we shine a light on the opportunity to do better. Thank you for joining us in this fight.
