John,
One year ago today, insurrectionists in coordination with the GOP stormed the Capitol in an attempt to subvert the will of the people and violently overturn the presidential election results.
In 2020, we turned out in record numbers and we can't let the events of that day or the lack of accountability that followed rob us of the truth that the people's resistance has always prevailed in the face of political corruption and violence. As we continue to build Black and brown political power, those who fear us will do anything to stop us.
That's why we're ready to hit the ground running in 2022 to protect our democracy. Are you? Add your name to say you're all-in on electing more Working Families champions up and down the ballot with us this year:
I'm all in! »
Over the past year, we've watched as Republicans not only try to cover up the events of that day but also went into overdrive attacking voting rights and redrawing voting maps in state legislatures nationwide in an attempt to rig the system in their favor.
Republicans like Lauren Boebert, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and every other member of Congress who incited violence at the Capitol through their attempts to overturn the election should not feel safe in those seats.
That's why we're identifying and supporting candidates up and down the ballot who are real working families champions. For example, we've endorsed working mom, Sol Sandoval to run against Lauren Boebert — the Colorado member of Congress who incited violence at the Capitol and who has repeatedly directed racist and islamophobic slurs to her co-worker, Rep. Ilhan Omar.
Many of us have lived through the hardest year of our lives. The system has failed us again and again. But this isn't a time to despair, it's time to organize. Democracy is on the ballot in 2022 and we know who and what we're up against.
Let's get to work electing working families champions that will fight with us and for us.
We have the power to demand that our Senators exercise their majority and pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to create national standards that protect our rights, ensure that trusted local election officials count every vote, and prevent partisan politicians from sabotaging the results of our elections.
We have the power to demand an end to the racist, obstructive filibuster that stymies democracy and allows political cowards to hide behind rules.
We have the power to create the democracy that we need for working families to thrive.
