The Capitol riot was a calculated and premeditated attempt by white supremacists to deny our human rights and subvert our communities’ growing power — and the spread of disinformation is what helped them radicalize thousands.
Evidence has mounted showing that Republicans in office, alongside social media platforms like Facebook, played an outsized role in the spread of disinformation, hate speech, and conspiracy theories, which led to the attack.
The lives of Black, brown, and immigrant communities will only continue to be threatened unless we come together in a collective effort to defend democracy and defeat white supremacy. That’s why United We Dream Action is leading the fight to root out disinformation and hold bad actors accountable.
We will hold politicians accountable, along with platforms like Facebook, for prioritizing profit over the safety of our communities by allowing racialized disinformation to run rampant. But we can’t do this without your help.
