One year ago today, America faced a most dangerous attack – not from a foreign enemy, but from violent extremists within.

Before, no one could have pictured the Capitol being sieged. It looked like something out of a dictatorship, not the United States of America.

I came to America fleeing those who used violence and fear to push their agenda.

I came to America because change is possible through a democratic process where we all have a voice.

We must fight to preserve that America.

Since the attack, some have tried to whitewash what happened. Let’s make no mistake about it: This was more than a riot...it was a deliberate attempt to overthrow our democratically elected government. And it can never happen again, John.

During a time when we should be strengthening our Democracy, Ron DeSantis continues to disenfranchise voters and spread lies.

I will work across the political spectrum to uphold and strengthen our democracy.

More than ever, we need unifying leadership to bring civility back into our politics and show our children that if we work together, we can make a difference.

January 6th is one of America’s darkest days.

So as we reflect on the year that’s passed, we must strive for a better future – to continue to protect our nation and our democracy against all threats both foreign and domestic.

We will fight relentlessly to show that this great experiment, that is American democracy, will never falter.
