Dear friend, On January 6th, 2021, I was in the Capitol, ready to vote to certify the 2020 election results -- a procedural vote meant to affirm the voice of the American people. Instead, I found myself hiding with my colleagues and staff as armed insurrectionists broke into the building in an attempt to steal the election, resulting in the death of 5 people. Hours later, we once again took to the House floor -- where those domestic terrorists had stood -- and 147 of my Republican colleagues voted to overturn the results of a free and fair election. Let me be clear: this was an attempted coup, and all those responsible and complicit must be held accountable. Allowing all Americans to vote -- and respecting the results of those elections -- is the foundation of our very democracy. It’s worth fighting for.
