John, When groups of angry Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol one year ago today, demanding—baselessly—that the 2020 Presidential Election results be overturned, Lauren Boebert and other GOP Congressmen from Colorado aided, abetted, and supported the insurrectionists. You might remember this tweet from Boebert, who stopped in the midst of the invasion to publicly pinpoint Nancy Pelosi’s location: Like millions of Americans that day, our team was appalled at what we saw broadcast live on national tv: thousands of Trump supporters overrunning the Capitol grounds, busting down barricades and barreling through Capitol Police checkpoints. And then, the unthinkable—windows shattered, security checkpoints at each entryway swarmed and overtaken, doors battered in, and gunshots pelting the centuries-old architecture of the Capitol. Hundreds of rioters illegally entering the Capitol, some aimlessly walking around as if they had not just broken in and trespassed on the very seat of American democracy and government—and others moving more deliberately, searching for the Chambers and for key elected officials (including VP Mike Pence) to exact violent retribution for false conspiracies peddled relentlessly by Donald Trump, Lauren Boebert, Josh Hawley, and many many others. We watched an attempted coup televised live; witnessed hundreds of overwhelmingly white rioters breaking in and then casually exiting the sanctity of the Capitol; saw Lauren Boebert declare that “Today is 1776”; and listened to Donald Trump praise the rioters while pathetically asking them to “go home.” All of the rage, anger, sadness and disappointment of that day was subsequently channeled into The Colorado Turnout Project. And this continues to be our North Star—we must hold insurrectionists accountable politically as well as legally, and we cannot allow those who gave comfort to those domestic terrorists to hold the keys to the joint. They must be soundly defeated this year, and Democrats must retain the House Majority. There is no room for any other outcome. At the Colorado Turnout Project, we are taking a stand against insurrectionists in our state by laying the groundwork (registering voters, running ads, canvassing, and getting out the vote) to unseat our national embarrassment, Lauren Boebert, and fighting to elect a progressive Democrat in the newly-created 8th District.
