Hey John,
If you take away one thing from today, I hope it's this: The insurrection didn't end on January 6th, 2021. It's still happening.
The thousands of violent insurrections may have left D.C., but the focus is now in our hometowns: recruiting and running for school board and election official roles (where they'd have immense power over our freedom to vote).
If we don't do something about it, they will attack our democracy again -- and this time, they won't dissipate in a matter of hours. The effects will be felt for generations to come.
Here's the good news: In the days following the insurrection, thousands of diverse young progressives raised their hands to say, "I'm ready to run and stop this from happening again." Altogether, 2021 was our best recruitment year ever.
We have the people and the passion to stop these violent conspiracy theorists from taking over our school boards, city councils, boards of elections, and state legislatures. Now, we just need the resources to win.
Can you contribute
$5
or anything you can to help diverse young progressives build winning campaigns that will end this ongoing coup?

One year ago, we saw how fragile our democracy truly is. But protecting it isn't just about putting up more metal detectors and deploying a larger security presence on Capitol Hill.
The threads of our democracy are most fragile at the places closest to us.
They weave through our school boards, which have a say in whether our kids are taught the good AND the bad of American history.
They weave through election administration offices, which have the power to defend our freedom to vote or squash it.
They weave through our county health boards that give us guidance and set rules on how to best protect ourselves and our community from COVID.
There were 57 Republican officials identified at the insurrection. At least 10 Republicans who were there were then elected last November. This is just part of a
very long strategy the Republican Party and their allies have been playing and will continue to play.
But as June Jordan and later Alice Walker said: We are the ones we've been waiting for.
Run for Something has never been about a single day, a single office, or a single election cycle. We are building for the long haul, too. Over 90,000 diverse young progressives have told us they're thinking about running. Our research shows about 10% of them (so far!) eventually do -- that's over 9,000 candidates who can stand up for democracy.
Let's make sure they have all the resources they need to keep their communities safe from violent insurrectionists and stop this ongoing slow-motion coup. Chip in
$5
or whatever you can.
This fight is far from over, but we're in it for the long haul.
