Hi John,
In 2022 the world faces challenges that none of us can tackle alone, from the ongoing pandemic to the climate emergency. That’s why we need to work together, as part of a movement, offering each other support, ideas and energy to keep fighting for what we believe in.

This movement is what’s sustained me over the last 12 months, so I want to say a heartfelt thank you today, for being part of Global Justice Now.

In so many ways we’ve punched about our weight in the last year and you’ve helped to make this possible - through signing petitions, taking part in actions or making donations.

We’ve had more media coverage than at any other point in our history. There is a real interest in the radical change we’re campaigning for, even in more conservative parts of the press.

Our struggle for a people’s vaccine was some of the most prominent international campaigning of 2021. Together with activists from across the world, we’ve made sure that most governments now back an intellectual property waiver at the WTO – even the president of the USA supports it. From our protests at the G7 summit, to a funeral procession at Downing Street, to several international rallies we took part in, the need for major reform of Big Pharma is firmly on the agenda.

We put the scandal of corporate courts onto the political agenda, going undercover to show how this toxic trade system is seriously hampering our ability to take the necessary action to deal with climate change.

And at COP26, we ensured that the message of climate justice was heard loud and clear. We helped get tens of thousands of people to Glasgow, and made sure no one was in any doubt that you can’t deal with climate change without fundamentally rewriting the rules of the global economy ([link removed]) .

I know that we could not have come close to achieving all of this without being part of a bigger movement. And that movement will be essential for our work in the year ahead.

Over 2022, we will continue to work to confront the obscenity of vaccine inequality and demand big changes to the pharmaceutical model which has created this situation.

We will continue to campaign for an end to the corporate court system which is preventing climate action, and we’ll work to transform the wider trade system which is fuelling environmental breakdown.

We will work with allies across the world to demand climate reparations for those least responsible for, but most affected by, climate change.

But most of all we will do everything we can to keep building our movement and our activist base, without which we would not have a hope of changing things.

On behalf of all the staff at Global Justice Now, thank you for standing with us. Thank you for making change possible.
