Today marks one year since insurrectionists stormed our United States Capitol in a violent attempt to overturn the outcome of a free and fair election.
Our very democracy was under siege that day. Brave Capitol Police officers were attacked and beaten, as they heroically defended our Capitol and those of us inside. All because of former President Trump's lies and his enablers in Congress.
Yet, even in the darkest days in our country’s history, we still certified the results of the election. Democracy prevailed.
Now, more than ever, it is imperative we unite against the dangerous lies that caused this insurrection and that continue to be spread by the right.
Republican-led state legislatures across our nation are trying to end voting rights as we know them, using the same rhetoric that sparked the events of January 6th. They want to make sure they decide the outcome of elections — not the American people. We can't let them succeed.
We must uphold the most basic and fundamental American right — the right to make your voice heard at the ballot box.
We must stand together for our democracy. I hope you'll stand with me.
Thank you,
John
