Great news: Challenge to Ashers ruling thrown out

Dear supporter,

An attempt by LGBT campaigner Gareth Lee to challenge the landmark Ashers ruling on human rights grounds has been thrown out by the European Court of Human Rights. This is great news that is already being reported around the world.

In 2018, five judges of the UK Supreme Court ruled unanimously that equality law cannot compel people to say something with which they profoundly disagree. It is a judgment that is good for everybody, whatever their views. It benefits religious liberty and freedom of speech.

Mr Lee’s lawyers had tried to argue that the decision had failed to safeguard his human rights. But this morning, the European Court said his claim was “inadmissible” and that it was being asked “to usurp the role of the domestic courts”. The decision is final.

See our website for more on the ruling.

Please join with us in giving thanks to God for today’s decision and pray that the Ashers ruling will continue to protect our fundamental freedoms.
