Team,
January 6th, 2021 was one of the darkest days in American history. After a pro-Trump mob attempted – but ultimately failed – to violently stop the certification of the 2020 election results, our democracy was left shaken.
But in the days that followed, NewDems took action to ensure that accountability and justice would be served to those who laid the groundwork for January 6th.
First, every NewDem upheld their duty to our democracy by voting to pass a bipartisan article of impeachment against former President Donald Trump.
Then, the House swiftly passed two NewDem-endorsed bills: The National Commission to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act and The Emergency Security Supplemental to Respond to January 6th Appropriations Act. These bills will ensure that those involved in the events of January 6th are held accountable for their actions while better preparing the Capitol complex from future potential threats.
Today, four NewDems – Reps. Adam Schiff (CA-28), Pete Aguilar (CA-31), Stephanie Murphy (FL-07), and Elaine Luria (VA-02) – sit on the House Select Committee on the January 6th Attack. 365 days after the insurrection, NewDems continue to lead the fight for truth, transparency, and the protection of our democracy in the House.
We will never forget what happened that day, and we pledge to always take a stand against those seeking to undermine our democracy.
Thank you for standing with us,
NewDems
