John,

The attempted coup on January 6, 2021 was a disgusting display of disrespect for our Democracy and everything America stands for. But despite their efforts, our Democracy stood and we were able to certify the 2020 election results.

After the insurrection, I was chosen by speaker Pelosi to serve as one of the nine impeachment managers in response to Trump's actions on January 6 because I understand the value of justice derived from the truth and the rule of law. I promise to keep fighting for those same values.

We also must take time to thank the heroic Capitol Police Officers and other first responders who kept, not only myself, but staff, other members of Congress and our Democracy safe.

One year later, there is still more to know about the attack and the White House's role in the insurrection. The House Select Committee on the January 6 attack is continuing to make progress uncovering the truth of the situation.

I will leave you with one final note. While many look at the gloom of today, I choose to see our standing Democracy. We will hold the insurrectionists accountable and we will continue to seek the truth. We will do all of that as we honor the promises of our Democracy.
