A year ago today we witnessed Donald Trump speak to a mob just steps from the White House, and in typical Trump fashion, lie about an election he clearly lost, calling on his supporters to “fight much harder” and to march to the U.S. Capitol building to “stop the steal.”

What we saw next was horrific. The mob stormed the building while Congress was in the middle of certifying the election results, and violently attacked the police officers on duty sworn to protect every member of Congress.

Let’s be clear: This was an insurrection and a clear attempt to overturn the results of an election Donald Trump lost, and that Joe Biden won.

A year later, thanks to the dedication of the January 6 Committee to uncovering the truth on what led to the attack, we are getting the answers we need to hold Trump and every single one of his cronies involved accountable.

But with Republicans plotting to take the House back this year, we are in danger of losing the committee. The GOP will shut it down as soon as they are in power, and we will never know how such a violent attack was even possible in our capitol. Will you contribute whatever you can today and join us in defending our majority and ensuring the committee finishes its work?

As part of the January 6 Committee, Future Forum member Pete Aguilar (CA-31) is hard at work planning next steps in the investigation.

With firsthand testimony collected by the committee, such as Trump watching everything unfold on TV and doing nothing, the public hearings planned for 2022 will shed more light on who was responsible for what on that day.

But if Republicans take the House this year, they will shut down the committee, and put a lid on any work left undone.
