My heart is heavy today, friend.
One year ago today, a violent mob attacked our nation's Capitol. Today, especially, I mourn those who lost their lives and those who are still in pain.
The Jan. 6 insurrection was a tragic attempt to undermine our elections, disrupt the peaceful transition of power, and further divide our already polarized country. It was an unconscionable attack that showed us just how vulnerable our democracy truly is. I know we can agree that this isn't what our nation should be, friend.
That's why today, on the anniversary of Jan. 6, I want you to know that I remain committed to holding those who are responsible accountable, protecting our elections, and restoring civility and decency to our governing and our politics. I'm committed to healing the divides that have cleaved us for too long – and I'm committed to working hard to inspire confidence and unity in place of discord. There is simply too much on the line for us to let partisan divisions destroy our fragile democracy.
Our resolve is being tested. But together we can make progress – healing the divides, helping hardworking families, and defending our democracy from all threats.
We are all working together to move this country forward – and together, friend, we will come out of this stronger.
There is work to be done,
Chrissy
