Today is the one year anniversary of the day Donald Trump declared war on American democracy by launching a violent coup with the goal of overturning a free and fair election.

Since then, Donald Trump and a Republican Party that has indulged his most authoritarian instincts, have tested our democracy daily by leveraging his Big Lie as a pretext to pass voter suppression laws across America.

Here’s the bottom line. The danger of right wing authoritarian takeover of the United States isn't theoretical: it's here.

That's why I'm proud to work with my colleagues to protect our democracy from tyrants like Donald Trump.

And it’s why I’m doing everything I can to make sure Trump is fully held accountable for his unpatriotic crimes. We must set a precedent to deter future similar behavior.
