Companies with integrated systems and a product-to-consumer strategy can track product availability on all channels and instantly communicate that information to potential customers, says Marcel Hollerbach of Productsup. The Port of Los Angeles is seeking approval from the Los Angeles Harbor Commission to begin charging ocean carriers $100 for each empty container that sits idle for nine days and an additional $100 per day until the container is removed. "[T]he objective with this empty-container program is not to collect fees but to free up valuable space on our docks, clearing the way for more ships and improving fluidity," said Gene Seroka, the port's executive director.
